When a favored horse loses an Australian race under suspicious circumstances, the sportsman-owner, a friend of Charlie's, returns to the States with the thoroughbred via steamship. After he is found kicked to death in the horse's stall, Chan investigates when the liner stops off in Honolulu and discovers evidence of foul play. When Charlie discovers fraud involving other races in Los Angeles, he is able to expose an international gambling ring as well as the murderer.
