Some movies deal with weightily with philosophical issues around life, relationships, aging and death, while others take the approach of examining those dicey topics more simply, by showing us the lives of ordinary people doing ordinary things, as if we're a fly on the wall of their lives. The charming, simple Swedish film Farsan, directed by Josef Fares, takes the latter approach to mostly good effect. Structually, it reminded me a lot of Bomber, Mid-August Lunch and other similar European films that are about the often dicey relationships between adult children and their parents, but that focus more on the surface of those relationships than the underlying societal issues or the intricacies of familial interactions.
